Pug Breed Standard Colours

There are only 4 coat colours of pug that are recognised in the pug breed standard; Fawn, Apricot, Silver and Black. Apricot and Silver are often described as warmer (apricot) and cooler (silver) shades of fawn.

In recent years you may have seen advertisements for pugs being sold in colours other than those mentioned above. These colour have been introduced by crossbreeding pugs with other breeds which may not only affect coat colour but also the health and temperment of the dog. These dogs in 'designer colours' are often being sold for large amounts of money by unscrupulous breeders who do not have the dogs welfare in mind.

Please, before purchasing a pug or any breed, do your research, speak to people and don't buy on a whim. There are breed clubs for every breed recognised in the UK and if you have any queries or concerns they will be able to help you.
